A practical guide to the drawings, photos, project details, budget range, and timeline information that help contractors provide a more accurate project estimate.
Getting a construction estimate is easier when the basic project information is clear. Before reaching out, it helps to prepare your project address, project type, photos of the existing condition, drawings or sketches if available, target timeline, and budget range.
For new builds, ADUs, additions, renovations, and interior build-outs, drawings are especially helpful. They allow the contractor to better understand the scope, size, layout, materials, and construction requirements.
If you do not have drawings yet, you can still start with photos, rough dimensions, and a short project description. A preliminary review can help identify the next steps, whether that means a site visit, design coordination, permit review, or a more detailed proposal.
The more information you provide upfront, the easier it is to receive a realistic estimate and avoid confusion later in the process.
